Re-opening in 1936, there were several changes of ownership before the distillery was taken over by independent bottlers Whyte Mackay in 1993. In 1995 it was shut down again.

In 2000 the distillery re-opened its doors after being taken over by Jim McEwan, former Master Distiller at Bowmore, and Mark Reynier and an independent organization. The purchase price of the distillery and its stocks was around 6. 5 million British pounds. Thanks to the careful handling and regular maintenance, the original equipment of the Bruichladdich distillery can still be used to a large extent today. In 2003, an investment followed in the form of our own bottling plant directly at the distillery.

Prior to his retirement in 2015, Master Distiller Jim McEwan ensured Bruichladdich was one of the most recognized and loved WHISKYs in the world. He himself referred to his creations as designer WHISKYs. McEwans successor was the new head distiller Adam Hannett, who works according to McEwans example. The distillery became known for its subtly peated Bruichladdich WHISKY Added Port Charlotte Whisky in 2006, which brings heavy peated notes, followed in 2008 by Octomore Whisky, which is super heavily peated.

The aroma of this single malt is particularly smoky. The taste is surprisingly rich. It has an alcohol content of 58. 7. It was stored in sherry casks. You can clearly taste the influence of these casks in this whisky.
